Hastings Utilities now offers online bill pay!

Customers of Hastings Utilities that want to pay their monthly utility bills by credit card can now do so. Hastings Utilities has reached an agreement with Certified Payments Inc., a company that will deal directly with the customer that wants to charge payment of their bill. There will be a 2.85% convenience fee added on to the billing amount, in order to use this service.

 

In the past, credit card usage had been available to customers of HU. However, the amount of service fees that HU was required to pay on a monthly basis grew to an amount that was very considerable. Any costs of doing business like the credit card fees are absorbed by the entire customer base, whether or not those customers charged their bills. Due to the amount of the fees that HU was paying, credit card usage was discontinued.

 

This new arrangement allows a  HU customer to charge their bill without Hastings Utilities having to pay any fees. It is the customer charging the bill that will have to pay the additional 2.85% convenience fee. For example, if a customer’s monthly bill is $100, and the credit card payment option is used, the total amount charged to the credit card would be $102.85. Your credit card billing would show $100 to Hastings Utilities and $2.85 to Certified Payments Inc..

 

To complete a transaction the customer will need to provide Certified Payments with their Hastings Utilities account number, which is found on the HU monthly billing. Additionally, a “bureau number” will be needed and that bureau number is 9516648. The customer will additionally submit their credit card information, and when approved, Hastings Utilities will be notified that the bill has been paid. The entire process should typically take less than ten minutes to complete. Customers may also complete the transaction by telephone if they so choose by calling 1-866-549-1010. Once payment is submitted, it cannot be retracted.
